Internal networking
The network inside the building
Full fibre gets the circuit to the building. The office network is what happens after that. The gateway, the switches, the Wi-Fi, and the rules for what is allowed to talk to what. When we redesign that network, we fit Ubiquiti. If what you have is already doing the job, we leave it.
- M365 Live tenant, mail, teams
- Voice Quiet phones on the data network
- Fibre Live full fibre to the premises
- Network Live routers, switches, wi-fi
- Cyber Quiet sign-in, devices, backup
- Software Quiet tools built to fit the estate
What we take on
- A look at the building before any kit is ordered: where people sit, what the walls are, where the phones are
- The gateway and the firewall rules, written down, so the defaults are not the design
- Switches, and a cable to a desk that never moves
- Wi-Fi, including a mesh of access points where one radio will not cover the building
- A separate path for guests, when guests need to get online without sitting on the company network
- A separation for the phones, the card machines, or the cameras, when they should not share a flat network with the laptops
What we will not pretend
- We will not replace working equipment so that the badges match
- We will not call a single router in a cupboard a redesign
- We will not promise a mesh will fix a building that needed a cable
- We will not claim a Ubiquiti partner status
In practice
When the network is being redesigned, the gateway, the switches and the access points are Ubiquiti. UniFi is the software that runs that kit from one place. We fit it because we will still be the people signing in to it next year. We do not sell it as a religion, and this page is not a catalogue.
A mesh is several access points that hand a laptop from one to the next as someone walks. It is the right tool when the building is larger than one radio, or when the walls eat the signal. A desk that does not move still wants a cable. A phone that carries the company’s calls wants a path that a large download cannot shove aside.
The fibre page is the circuit, up to the building. This page is the inside. When both are ours, they are one design: the router, the Wi-Fi, and the phones sized together, not three boxes ordered from three places.
A guest network is a second Wi-Fi for people who are not the company. They get online. They do not get the files, the printers, or the cameras.
The gateway is where the firewall lives. It decides what may come in from the internet, and what the office may reach. We write the rules down. A firewall that has never been read is a box that arrived with someone else’s choices.
The separation between the laptops and a till, or a camera, is usually a VLAN: a network of its own, on the same switches, with its own rules. Worth it when those devices should not be one click from the wages file. Not worth it for a company of ten with nothing but laptops. We will say which one you are.
